The Cake Walk – Isle of Wight Part 5

The doggies at Firestone Copse Today wasn’t so much of walking to a tearoom, more of a walk AND a tearoom (or two). I had a minor disaster when the memory card in my Blackberry decided to have a hissy fit and I lost some of my pictures, but Hubster came to the rescue as he took lots on his phone AND managed to save some of mine via the power of being a cleverdick techno bod. We started at Firestone Copse with a picnic. The weather actually felt like summer as we ventured down into the forest to Wooton Creek, where the doggies found some muddy water to jump…

The Cake Walk – Isle of Wight Part 4

Today’s walk led us to what is possibly one of the best cakes I’ve had for ages, via a scrummy bacon sandwich. All in all it was a very good food day!! We started in Freshwater at the ‘End of the Line’ garden centre and headed north to Yarmouth. It’s a relatively easy round walk, over farm fields, to Yarmouth and back along the estuary path. Out first stop was at the Kings Manor Farm Shop and Cafe. It had just started to pour down, so the very accommodating owners let us take the dogs inside (as long as they promised to behave!). Inside is a small shop selling fresh…

The Cake Walk – Isle of Wight Part 3

Today we walked from Bonchurch to Shanklin, and then ate huge chunks of homemade cake – yummy!! The Bonchurch to Shanklin Coastal Path is one we’ve walked a few times. It’s not a long walk, it’s not an easy walk, but it’s a beautiful one. It starts at the small beach at Bonchurch and climbs steeply along the coast. It is a walk with variety and much of it is beneath a heavy covering of trees. This morning the weather was misty but warm, so it felt like we could have been trekking through a tropical rainforest – well what I imagine a rain forest to feel like. Mid way…

The Cake Walk – The Isle of Wight Part 2

Daisy enjoying the view at the top of Mottistone Down It’s been a tale of 2 tearooms today. We started the day heading north from the South Coast of the Island to Chale Farm Cafe, which on the outside, it has to be said, is not the prettiest of places. Chale Farm Cafe Chale is a a pretty little village, with the blot of a new brick building which houses a Deli and Cafe. The building is ugly and dull, but the landscaped gardens and view towards The Downs is stunning, and on a sunny day, like today, was worth facing away from the building for. And the food….oh the…

The Cake Walk – Isle of Wight Part 1

There are a few things in my life I do for fun. 1. Bake and/or eat cake 2. Walk my dogs (Barney the Welsh Springer and Daisy the Black Labrador) with and without the Hubster (preferably with) 3. Clay pigeon shooting Some times I get the opportunity to combine 2 of my fun things, and this week that means walking and eating cake!! We are holidaying in Bonchurch, near Ventnor on the south of the Isle of Wight. I have to confess we didn’t pick the most sensible week as the Isle of Wight Festival is taking place, and it SHOULD be Glastonbury weekend, so the weather is almost guaranteed…
