    Little Apple Cakes

Autumn is on its way which in our house means having masses of apples, so with that in mind I have set about hunting out some great apple recipes – first up are Little Apple Cakes. When I say we have masses of apples, I mean it. We have 2 apple trees, which could be very very old – our cottage is over 500 years old, and although the trees aren’t the same age as the cottage, we’re fairly certain they are older than me – so that’s pretty old! Every year our trees are full. This year has been very dry and hot, so the apples are small, some…

    Scrummy Rocky Road

Rocky Road…..Chocolate, Biscuits, Marshmallows, and ANY other sweets and candies that YOU want to add. There are no hard and fast rules about Rocky Road, as long as it has the basic chocolatey base, you really can throw any sweet treat you like at it and it won’t ruin it. I often make Rocky Road for Fairs and Markets, and they are always, without doubt, THE most popular thing on the table. I always make twice as much as anything else, I make them with both Dark and White chocolate, and they always, always sell. The question I get asked a lot is “what’s in them?”, and my standard answer…

    150 Muesli Flapjacks

This recipe is not actually for 150 Muesli Flapjack bars, but it is for some of the easiest flapjack bars ever. Everything is just 150 grams and its baked at 150c. If you remember the name, you’re pretty certain to remember the recipe. My husband has a breakfast problem. 4 years ago he never ate breakfast, now we have so many packets of porridge, muesli, granola, cereals and bars that our cupboard is literally bulging…..seriously, the door won’t actually close. The biggest issue is that our small, kitchen has built in units that the average cereal box won’t fit in, so we have to take all the bags out of…

    Coconut Chocolate Cookie Bars

So…summer seems to be over. But hasn’t it been good?! Well it has here…………   We’ve enjoyed warm weather (actually a bit hot on a couple of occasions, but I promised not to complain after last years rain!), long days and pleasant evenings filled with dog walks and sitting outside pubs with a cold cider. It’s definitely been a vintage summer that will remain in the memory for a very long time. But………the evenings are drawing in! There’s a chill in the air and it’s time to get in the kitchen baking. As autumn turns the trees red and brown, there’s nothing better than filling the house with warm baking…

Caramel Egg Filled Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

I have recently started a commission for Essence Magazine, which is distributed to homes in Surrey and can be found online. Its a great magazine….well, why else would they commission recipes from The Daisy Cake Company?!!   Every month I provide Essence with a brand new, unseen Daisy Cake recipe, and I can now let you, my loyal blog readers, share March’s recipe. If you click on the photo above, you can read the whole magazine (which is really very very good!!). Turn to page 32 and you can see The Daisy Cake Diet’s Caramel Egg Filled Chocolate Crinkle Cookies in full. Because, what else would you do with all those…

    Its been a while……

Weeeeell, hello there stranger! How are you? I know, I know, it’s been a while, but you wouldn’t believe how busy I’ve been. Let me give you a quick run-down of what’s been happening since I spoke to you last. My dream of owning my own tea-room and cake shop was screaming louder and louder at me, so on December 4th I handed in my notice from a full-time career, to take a part-time job, which would allow me to spend more time making and selling cakes. I had a month before starting the new job, so as it was coming up to Christmas I thought I’d get some shopping…

    Red Velvet Cookies

WOW!!! London you were amazing, Team GB you were completely awesome. I’m all Olympiced out. What an amazing couple of weeks, and today it somehow seems wrong to not be watching another sport on the television.   I have well and truly become an armchair expert in loads of different sports, and have gone through a wealth of emotions whilst watching the games. I’ve been moved to tears watching horses dance to music, have sat on the edge of my seat watching the rowing and cycling, have almost been too scared to watch Peter Wilson shoot his last 2 shots in the Men’s Double Trap, have screamed at Mo Farah…

    Lemon Crumble Bars

If you live in the UK, There are 2 things you can’t have failed to have noticed this summer: 1. The Olympics are nearly upon us – yep, London 2012 will be opening in just a weeks time. 2. It hasn’t stopped raining for what seems like forever!!   Firstly the Olympics. Personally I’m very excited. We get TV Olympic coverage at a time of day I’m not in bed, sleeping. But then I don’t live near the Olympic Village. I do however, have a ‘proper’ job at a big Dance Shoe Company, and the factory and offices are based in Hackney. Oh…. My…. Life…..how much things have changed in…

    Chocolate Cream Cheese Butter Bars

This is what you get when 2 worlds collide! Last year, the people of England (well women mainly) were up in arms when their beloved and quintessentially English chocolate brand Cadburys was sold the the US giant Kraft. Terror hit the country as the worry that a bar of Dairy Milk would somehow change in taste and texture, that a Wispa would would no longer be tiny bubbles joined by light milk chocolate, but would somehow be tranformed into a dark Hershey type chocolate. Seriously, the British female population was gripped by fear…… ……but of course there was nothing to worry about. Dairy Milk still tastes like Dairy Milk, a…

Please Sir, can I have S’more?

Most Americans and Canadians will know exactly what I’m talking about when I mention S’more, but if you’re a Brit, like me, chances are you’ll have a ‘huh?’ look on your face. In the UK, we never grew up with the S’mores thing, and in fact I only really heard about it last year, so I was surprised to find out it has real history! I read recently that they first appeared in the Girls Scouts Handbook back in the 1920’s.   The most recent time I saw S’Mores was on The Apron Gal blog, so I have unashamedly stolen the idea and made it British (well with British ingredients).…
